Heatwaves and Women: Report Launch

On Wednesday 7 October, the Birth Companions Institute joined the Women's Environmental Network (Wen) and Friends of the Earth to launch our new report: Heatwaves and Women.

Heat affects us all. But it doesn’t affect us equally.

Following another summer of extreme heat, Wen, the Birth Companions Institute and Friends of the Earth held an online launch of Heatwaves and Women - a new report examining how rising temperatures in the UK intersect with women’s health and existing inequalities.

Bringing together evidence, lived experience and perspectives from across health, climate and social justice, we explored:

- How and why extreme heat affects women differently

- What this summer tells us about the UK's preparedness for a hotter climate

- How inequalities in health, housing, work, income and caring responsibilities shape people's ability to cope with heat

- What needs to change in UK heat and climate adaptation policy

- Why those most affected should have a voice in shaping the response
