Our model

Birth Companions trauma-informed model of engagement

As lived experience engagement work becomes more widespread across the voluntary, public, and academic sectors, we want to raise expectations around how this work can be done well. We want to share what we have learned and support the development of best practice.

About our training

Heading 1

Our two and a half hour online interactive training will help you explore the five core values of the trauma-informed approach and develop an understanding of Birth Companions’ engagement model

It will include insights from members of our Lived Experience Team; the theoretical context for this work; and practical aspects including planning, risk assessment, payment, trauma-informed walk-throughs, briefings and debriefs.

The training includes a live Q&A session to explore barriers you may face and the potential opportunities for you and your organisation.

This training has been developed based on our specialist focus on supporting women who face inequity and disadvantage during pregnancy and early motherhood, but the model can be applied more widely to support the development of engagement with other groups and communities.
