We are delighted to welcome Gurpreet Kaur Bhatti as Birth Companions' new Ambassador.
We are delighted to announce that Gurpreet Kaur Bhatti, writer for stage, screen and radio, has joined Birth Companions as an Ambassador.
Gurpreet’s first play Behsharam broke box office records at Soho/Birmingham Rep. Her second play Behzti was sensationally closed after protests. It went on to win the Susan Smith Blackburn Prize.
In her role as a core writer on The Archers, Gurpreet was part of the team who created the ground-breaking Helen and Rob domestic violence story, which saw Helen entering prison while pregnant. She has also written for EastEnders and Hollyoaks.
In 2025 Gurpreet created and toured her hit play Scenes from Lost Mothers, about the plight of women who face separation from their babies due to imprisonment. The play was developed with Clean Break as part of the Lost Mothers research project led by the University of Hertfordshire and Birth Companions.
Most recently, her adaptation of Sathnam Sanghera’s novel Marriage Material opened to great acclaim at the Lyric Hammersmith before transferring to the Birmingham Rep. Her latest work Choir played to sell-out houses at Chichester Festival Theatre. She is currently developing plays for Clean Break, NT Connections and the Royal Court; writing an original series Masala for Hometeam/Universal; adapting Black & Blue by Parm Sandhu for Cuba Pictures; and Brando's Bride by Sarah Broughton as a feature for Ffilm Cymru Wales.
