Sam is deeply committed to the power of the charity sector to drive social change and build a fairer, more equal society. With over 30 years of experience, she has dedicated her career to strengthening organisations and enhancing their impact, specialising in organisational development and charity effectiveness.
She is currently Head of Delivery and Impact at Pilotlight, a social enterprise that champions skills-based volunteering and the exchange of professional expertise to support charities across the UK. Prior to this, Sam spent five years working in the youth sector and previously held the role of CEO at Charities Evaluation Services, where she led the development of PQASSO, the sector’s widely recognised quality standard.
Sam has been Chair of Birth Companions since summer 2022, having supported the organisation for many years. Her journey began as a volunteer, contributing to strategic development before joining the Board. Her longstanding involvement reflects her deep belief in Birth Companions’ mission and the vital role it plays in supporting women facing disadvantage during pregnancy and early motherhood.
Throughout her career, Sam has remained passionate about helping charities thrive. Her work has consistently focused on enabling organisations to become more resilient, effective, and mission-driven ensuring they can deliver meaningful change in the communities they serve.
