In March 2026, the Birth Companions Institute submitted evidence to Baroness Amos' National Maternity and Neonatal Investigation, grounded in Birth Companions' thirty years of work with women facing inequity and disadvantage during pregnancy and early motherhood.
Our submission makes the case for a maternity system built to handle complexity; for trauma-informed care as a safety requirement; for proper investment in specialist midwives and voluntary sector roles; and for cross-system reform that reaches beyond the maternity pathway into the full first 1001 days.
